We received 75 responses to the survey included in our July 2026 newsletter, distributed to 310 website subscribers. All but one respondent had visited the ravine in the past, with visits ranging from the two extremes of “rarely” and “every day” (8% of the respondents for each) up to a large group that visited “one or more times per week” (33% of respondents).
We asked two main questions in the survey. The first one asked about the importance of each of eight kinds of possible improvement to the Vale and the second about the importance of each of eight qualities of the Vale that should be emphasized in a future vision for the Vale. The top three responses to each question are shown in the figure above. We also received 26 comments about other items of importance to respondents and 46 comments about what people would most like to see when visiting the Vale in 20 years. A selection of these comments is shown in the box below.
Although we cannot claim that the survey is representative of the broader community because it only went out to our subscription list, we have submitted the results, including comments, to the City of Toronto and hope that it will provide a starting point for identifying priorities during the public consultation process about the Vale of Avoca Improvement Project. This process is due to begin in the next few weeks with an open house and we encourage everyone to attend.
