Not many people know that there are twelve trail routes in and out of midtown Toronto’s Vale of Avoca ravine. The lack of signage in the ravine makes every visit an adventure – inexperienced trekkers frequently emerge in unexpected places.
This walk, led by the Midtown Ravines Group, will go by each one of the 12 access routes in and out of the ravine. The walk will dispel mysteries about how the ravine actually connects to the adjacent neighbourhoods and trail routes, and will also discuss the state of the different gateways, ranging from almost-satisfactory to completely out of commission. Participants will be encouraged to think of ways to create a useable trail network through the ravine, while protecting its habitats and woodland character.
The walk will take about two hours and cover almost 4km of paths, ranging from paved surfaces, gravel, and dirt/mud. The footing may be poor in some areas.
